Secretary’s Update Report

1.0      Purpose of the Report

1.1        To update members of the Local Access Forum on developments since the last meeting of NYLAF.

2.0     Coast to Coast Passport Scheme

2.1       More than 6000 hikers undergo the Coast to Coast Walk each year, all of them testing their mettle on the arduous 192-mile journey across England, tackling the windswept peaks, fells and moors of three majestic national parks.  Now walkers taking on the famous route which passes through North Yorkshire are able to record their progress by way of a Coast to Coast Walk Passport.

The pocket-sized passport has 140 pages with stamping pages and packed with useful information about places on route.  As you progress along the route the Passport has details of the 30 stamping locations as well as the name and address of every participating stamping agent.  Stamping agents include pubs, restaurants, cafes, local shops, guesthouses, hotels, historic attractions, field research centres and churches.

Be sure to get your Passport stamped in each location wherever you choose to stop. The Passport remains live indefinitely until your journey is complete, even if you decide to tackle the walk in stages over several years.

You can collect as many stamps as you choose to be eligible for a personalised Coast to Coast Completion Certificate confirming that you have finished the route, to celebrate your success and to serve as a reminder of some magical moments.

As a passport holder you may be eligible to discounts at participating restaurants, cafes, pubs, shops and accommodation providers, so you can enjoy some well-earned treats while supporting rural communities along the way.

3.1        There has been no notifications received of discretionary ‘28 day’ restrictions under Section 22 of the Countryside and Rights of Way Act 2000, or discretionary dog restrictions, since the last Forum meeting.
